Rain or shine, Mardi Gras in Soulard is bigger than the weather.

Despite steady rain on Saturday morning, tens of thousands of people packed Broadway for the Bud Light Grand Parade, the centerpiece of St. Louis’ Mardi Gras celebrations. Ponchos, umbrellas, and rain jackets didn’t stop the crowds from lining the streets, ready for beads, music, and the energy that comes with one of the city’s biggest traditions.

The 47th annual parade featured around 80 crews, ranging from walking groups to large, colorful floats rolling from Downtown toward the Soulard neighborhood. For many, it was a chance to experience the city’s Mardi Gras celebration firsthand, with visitors traveling from out of town to take in the parade and the the atmosphere.

Beyond the party, the weekend was also a major win for local businesses. Mardi Gras brings in more than $20 million each year to the St. Louis region, supporting bars, restaurants, and shops along the parade route. Owners in Soulard say the event is one of the most important days of the year, with weeks of preparation going into stocking drinks and welcoming the massive crowds.

By the end of the day, the rain was just part of the backdrop. Soulard’s Mardi Gras parade brought the crowds, the tradition, and the energy that makes it one of St. Louis’ biggest celebrations year after year.
