Seven chefs and restaurants from the St. Louis area earned national recognition this week after the James Beard Foundation announced its 2026 award semifinalists.
Four local chefs were named semifinalists in the Best Chef: Midwest category, highlighting the regionβs continued influence on the national food scene. The group includes Loryn Nalic of Balkan Treat Box, Alex Henry of El Molino del Sureste, Philip Day of Root Food + Wine, and Nick Bognar, whose restaurants include Sado and Pavilion. Several of the chefs are repeat nominees, underscoring their sustained impact and consistency.
St. Louis restaurants were also recognized across three national categories. Robin was named a semifinalist for Best New Restaurant, following a breakout first year and recent praise from The New York Times. Louie earned a nod for Outstanding Hospitality, while Vicia was selected as a semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurant, one of the foundationβs most prestigious honors.
Finalists will be announced March 31, with winners revealed June 15 at the James Beard Awards ceremony in Chicago.
