No. 8 East St. Louis (9-3) takes on No. 11 Fenwick (10-3) tonight in the IHSA Class 6A state championship game at Hancock Stadium in Normal. Both teams enter on four-game winning streaks, setting up a strong matchup to close out the 2025 season.
The Flyers opened the playoffs with a 63-7 first-round home win over No. 9 Plainfield East, piling up more than 500 yards of offense and getting 218 kick-return yards from junior Ronnie Gomiller.
In the second round, ESTL traveled to face No. 1 seed Glenwood and pulled away for a 53-14 road victory, powered by 257 rushing yards and three touchdowns from junior four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook.
The Flyers followed that with a one-sided quarterfinal, shutting out No. 12 Simeon 49-0 at home, as the offense totaled 424 yards and the defense recorded 77 tackles, four sacks, and two interceptions.
In the semi-final, The Flyers faced the No. 10 St. Laurence Vikings and defeated them 50-7 thanks to four touchdowns from Johnson-Cook and three from junior Ahmad Coleman.
Now 9-3 and playing their best football of the season, East St. Louis meets Fenwick (10-3) tonight at Hancock Stadium in Normal for the Class 6A state championship.
