In the new era of College Basketball the transfer portal is a revolving door of players and this season is no different for Mizzou basketball. The Tigers brought in five players via the transfer portal to help supplement the roster, get to know them here.
Shawn Phillips
The 7-foot center averaged 5.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game as a junior at Arizona State.
Phillips spent the previous two seasons with the Sun Devils and could be the scoring threat the Tigers are looking for in the frontcourt. After transferring to Arizona State from LSU ahead of the 2023-24 season, Sun Devils coach Bobby Hurley called Phillips “the most gifted frontcourt guy I’ve had.”
After former Arizona State forward Jayden Quaintance went down this past season, Phillips was the focal point in the frontcourt and thrived over the last 10 games of the season. The big man had two double-doubles and scored in double digits five times in that period.
The SEC will not be anything new for Phillips as he spent his freshman season at LSU. While with the Tigers, his playing time was limited — he appeared in 20 games and averaged just 7.5 minutes per game.
Phillips was a four-star recruit out of high school, according to 247Sports, and the 90th-ranked player in the Class of 2022.
Mizzou received his commitment over the likes of Kansas, Villanova, Memphis and Cincinnati, whom he had with MU in his final five school choices.
Jevon Porter
Jevon’s brothers Michael and Jontay both suited up for the Tigers, as did sisters Bri and Cierra.
In one season at Loyola Marymount, the former Tolton standout averaged 12.5 points, career-high-tying 7.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
Before Loyola Marymount, Porter was a two-year starter at Pepperdine and averaged a career-high 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds in the 2023-24 season. The 6-foot-11 senior will return to Columbia to help bolster Dennis Gates’ front court.
The big man is also a threat from the outside, shooting a career-high 35.1% from 3-point land as a freshman in 2022-23 and a career-high 48.5% from the field that same season. This past season, those numbers were 31.6% and 39.4%.
Jayden Stone
Stone redshirted his lone season with the Mountaineers after suffering an undisclosed upper-body injury during practice in October. He will use his final year of eligibility at MU.
The 6-foot-4 senior transferred to West Virginia from Detroit Mercy, where he played two seasons. The Perth, Australia, product averaged 20.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals across 26 games for the Titans in 2023-24. He shot 42.2% from the field and 31.2% from 3-point range that season.
The former Sunrise Christian Academy standout also played two seasons at Grand Canyon before his move to Detroit.
Stone has averaged 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists across 69 college games, shooting 43.2% from the field and 34.7% from beyond the arc.
Sebastian Mack
UCLA transfer guard Sebastian Mack committed to the Tigers on Monday morning, as reported first by On3’s Joe Tipton.
Mack spent his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Bruins, averaging 9.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Last season, he was UCLA’s sixth man in a majority of their games and averaged just under 21 minutes per game.
He was third on the Bruins in scoring. Mack’s numbers took a bit of a hit last season compared to his freshmen year.
The 6-foot-3 Chicago native who moved to the Las Vegas area as a teen averaged 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game during the 2023-24 campaign, earning Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors.
In his career, Mack has shot 40.4% from the field, 29.6% from 3-point range and 73.4% from the free-throw line.
Coming out of high school, Mack was ranked the No. 53 player in his class by Rivals.com and also was ranked No. 56 nationally in the 247Sports.com composite player rankings.
Luke Northweather
Oklahoma transfer forward/center Luke Northweather joined the Tigers this spring.
The former Blair Oaks standout averaged 2.7 points and 1.5 rebounds per game, shooting 42.9% from the field and 34% from 3-point range in the 2024-25 campaign. Northweather also recorded 11.3 minutes per contest across 30 games with the Sooners last season.
The redshirt sophomore spent three seasons in Norman, Oklahoma, posting averages of 2.4 points and 1.5 rebounds on 41.9% shooting from the field and 31.3% shooting from beyond the arc.
Northweather spent two of those seasons under the guidance of former Oklahoma assistant coach Armon Gates, who is Missouri coach Dennis Gates' younger brother. Armon Gates also departed from the program, getting hired as an assistant on Minnesota coach Niko Medved's staff April 3.
At 6-foot-11, Northweather averaged 1.7 3-point attempts per game last season, which trumped his 2-pointer attempt rate of 0.4.
