Logan Chapman - "Solstice"
Alright, let's talk about Logan Chapman. This dude is a 21-year-old artist, songwriter, and producer from Louisiana, and let me tell ya, he's got that old-school R&B soul with a new-school twist. He dropped his first album, "Point Blank," back in 2011, and he's been putting in the work ever since, building his sound and his fan base. His music is all about those late-night vibes and smooth grooves, and you can just feel the emotion coming through in every track. He’s the kind of guy who makes music you wanna blast on a long drive with the windows down, or when you're just chillin' with your significant other. You know, that good stuff. As for "Solstice," this track is a classic Chapman joint. It's got those sultry vocals and a beat that’s gonna get you movin'. It's all about that emotional connection, that moment when everything comes together. It's a song that proves this guy's got a bright future ahead of him.
Deaf Castle - "Cycles"
Now, this is a cool one. Deaf Castle is a band straight outta the STL area, and they've got that hard-hitting, riff-heavy sound that'll make your face melt. These dudes are all about the punk rock and hard rock vibes, and they've been touring all over the place since the late '90s. They've opened for some serious heavy hitters like Avenged Sevenfold and Social Distortion, so you know they can hold their own on a big stage. Their sound is raw, it's gritty, and it's got that no-BS attitude that we all love. They're a band that's gonna give you everything they've got, and you're gonna feel it in your bones. "Cycles" is a perfect example of what these guys are all about. It's got that relentless energy, those pounding drums, and a hook that's gonna be stuck in your head for days. It's a track that just makes you wanna get in the mosh pit and go crazy.
Obviously Offbeat - "I’ve Seen You Before"
"Obviously Offbeat" is a solo project by a St. Louis-based producer and multi-instrumentalist named Kevin Koehler. This guy's a local legend! He's not just a musician, he's a whole one-man show, and he's been at it for a minute. He's also the mastermind behind a project called "Obviously Nada," which is all about meditative music. So this dude's got some serious range, from folk and indie rock to stuff that'll help you find your zen. He's the real deal, born and bred right here in the Lou. "I've Seen You Before" has that St. Louis sound, you know? It's the kind of tune that feels both new and familiar at the same time.
Clusterpuck - "Thousand Miles To Go"
Alright, this one's for the country and bluegrass fans. Clusterpuck is a quartet of harmony singers and instrumentalists that came together in the '80s and they've got that classic Nashville sound. They've played with some of the biggest names in the business, including the one and only Johnny Cash! They even had a song that was nominated for a Grammy, so you know these guys are the real deal. Their music is full of that sweet, sweet harmony and incredible instrumentation. They're the kind of band that reminds you of a simpler time, when music was all about telling a good story. "Thousand Miles To Go" is a song that's got that traveling, feel-good vibe. It’s got those harmonies and that fiddle goin' that make you wanna hit the road and leave your troubles behind. It’s a song about the journey, and it’s a beautiful one at that.
5ive - "Me and My Brother"
This 5ive is a St. Louis singer and rapper. His real name is Will Porter, and he broke through in 2019 with that powerful song, "Me and My Brother," which is a tribute to his late twin brother, Walter. This song is a whole lot more than just a track, man. It's a story. He took the pain of losing his brother and turned it into something beautiful, something everyone can connect with. The song's got a heartfelt hook that they wrote together, and a soulful instrumental that'll give you goosebumps. It's the kind of music that comes from the soul, and it shows you the talent we've got right here in our own backyard.
LOCAL CALLBACK: Matt’s Dads Basement - "Tupac At McDonalds"
Now this is a local one, and if you're from St. Louis, you've probably heard this before. Matt's Dads Basement is a band from right here in the STL area, and they were part of that legendary "Pointessential" compilation that came out back in the day. Their song "Tupac At McDonalds" is a total classic, and it's the kind of song that you just can't get out of your head. These guys have a sound that's raw, it’s unpolished, and it’s just pure fun. They're the kind of band that proves you don't need a major record deal to make a killer song. They're a true St. Louis treasure, and if you know, you know. "Tupac At McDonalds" is the kind of song that makes you laugh and nod your head at the same time. It's a track that's a perfect snapshot of a specific time and place, and it's a song that St. Louis will always remember.
Bullets & Octane - "Pirates"
These guys are another St. Louis rock institution! Bullets & Octane started right here in the Lou before making the move to California, but they've never forgotten their roots. They've been a force in the hard rock and punk rock scene for decades, touring all over the world and sharing the stage with some of the biggest bands in the business. Their music is a high-octane blend of punk rock aggression and hard rock swagger. It’s loud, it’s fast, and it’s full of that rebellious spirit that makes rock and roll so great. "Pirates" is a fan favorite, and it's easy to see why. This track was even featured in the video game MX vs. ATV Unleashed, and it's got that anthemic, fist-pumping energy that makes you wanna smash a car with a sledgehammer. It's a song that perfectly captures the band's gritty, no-holds-barred attitude.
Melissa Powers - "As of Yet"
I'm not gonna lie, I couldn't find a song from a Melissa Powers that wasn't an Ohio attorney and judge. I'm sure she's a fantastic lawyer and a wonderful judge, but I'm gonna have to call a time out on this one. I'll get back to you with the real info once I dig a little deeper.
Blinded Black - "Can You Hear Me Now?"
Blinded Black is another one of our St. Louis guys! This five-piece post-hardcore band has been making a name for themselves since the late '90s. They're all about that emo-leaning alternative rock, and they've got that emotional, raw energy that hits you right in the gut. They've been through it all, from touring with other big bands to breaking up and getting back together. They're the kind of band that's a perfect example of what it means to be a St. Louis band: you put in the work, you grind it out, and you never give up. "Can You Hear Me Now?" is a track that’s gonna give you all the feels. It's a perfect blend of melodic vocals and a hard-hitting chorus. It's a song that speaks to that feeling of wanting to be heard, and it’s a track that you'll be screaming along to with your friends.
