Welcome to the NEW Wednesday’s here on Sounds of STL. This is where STL artists come to share THEIR music with THEIR city. And that’s exactly what I want to do with this, and I couldn’t be more excited. Let’s be honest. Growing up, a dream of mine was to talk to folks on the radio. And that happened. And - now in a position that I didn’t think I’d be in again…I want to try and make someone else’s dream come true. I know that as a band/artist you make music because you love it, or because you want to be famous. Those are the two options. So maybe I can help with one of those. I can play your song ON THE RADIO in the city you grew up in.
So, that’s the plan. Featuring local artists every Wednesday. A full hour of played on the radio and streamed here on the website.
If you are an artist/band and want to submit your music to be featured: EMAIL US at patrico@soundsofstl.com.
If you want to follow along - we are adding these songs to Spotify/Apple as well. Just searched for “The Official Sounds of STL Playlist.”
MADS - Me & My Friends
MADS is a powerful voice that stands out in a crowd. Little background - a few years back I was judging the Battle of the Bands at Busch Stadium. The winning band got to throw out the first pitch at a game, get some recording time, and some other sweet perks. Even though MADS didn’t win….I remember specifically saying: “if she sticks with it…they are going to make it.” And here we are….probably over 5 years later and on my music show showcasing local music….and I get to play MADS and their new single: “Me & My Friends”
31Core - Love Myself
31Core started as an idea. The brain behind it all had been writing lyrics and messing around with computer generated music for years - and one day it clicked - just because he didn’t MAKE the music - doesn't mean people can’t ENJOY the music. So, with the help of technology - 31Core was born. This song is off of the debut album called Saint Bruises, Misery - it’s Love Myself.
Inches From Glory - Quiet
Meet Inches from Glory, a super cool emo/punk band straight outta the St. Louis music scene. Since they got together in 2018, these guys have been all about bringing a raw vibe to their music. They're a staple in the local scene, Their sound is a mix of high-energy jams and really heartfelt lyrics, so it’s the kind of music you can totally get lost in. If you're into that authentic, no-frills punk rock energy, Inches from Glory is definitely a band you need to check out!
LUKCAN - What Can You Do?
I’m big on being there since day 1. And - let’s take a peak behind the curtain. Our buddy LUKCAN was the VERY first person who reached out to have their music featured on the Sounds of STL. He’s got a ton of music and covers out there on the socials - however - this one stood out. And I want to give credit where credit is due - Lukcan performed this version of the song on Rock Paper Podcast and it sounds great!
SMINO - Backstage Pass
Smino is an awesome rapper and singer from St. Louis who's known for his super smooth, soulful flow and a chill, jazzy vibe. He’s a big part of the local scene and the founder of his own crew, Zero Fatigue. Man, so you got "Backstage Pass" on Madden, and it's an absolute banger. It's got that old-school indie rock vibe with Smino just going off. It's the kind of song that just gets you pumped up, you know what I'm sayin'?
THE LOCAL CALL BACK:
GRAVITY KILLS - Personal Jesus (Cover)
Gravity Kills is one of those bands that are just pure STL—legit '90s industrial rock legends who absolutely blew up with that track "Guilty." They were a huge deal back in the day, bringing a whole new sound to the local scene that was dark, heavy, and awesome. And man, their cover of "Personal Jesus"? That thing is a total banger. They took the Depeche Mode original and turned it into this gritty, heavy industrial anthem that just absolutely crushes. It's on The Crow soundtrack, too, which just makes it that much cooler.
NICK GUSMAN & THE COYOTES - Lifting Heavy Things
You gotta check out Nick Gusman and The Coyotes, man. They're a super legit St. Louis band, and they’ve got that pure, authentic Americana sound that just hits you right in the gut. They're all about honest songwriting and those awesome roots-rock vibes. Dude, this song "Lifting Heavy Things" is great. It's got this real, relatable feel to it, all about just getting through the tough stuff in life. The way Nick sings it, you can just feel that passion. It’s one of those tracks that you listen to, and you’re like, "Yeah, I get that.”
COURTNIE - It’s All Right
Man, so you gotta check out Courtnie. She's a St. Louis girl who's got this super smooth R&B and neo-soul vibe, but it's got a really cool, modern feel to it. She's got this incredible voice and her music is just pure chill. This song Its All Right…is just that. It’s alright baby and very little wrong. I’m not a huge pop music fan….but I can get with this!
Interpersonal - Out Of Time
If you haven’t heard before…you will hear about this band Interpersonal. They’re a heavy rock band right outta St. Louis, and they've got this awesome, gritty sound. They're a big part of the local punk and rock scene, and they put out this album called "The Long Bright Dark" and it’s great but my favorite tune from them is this song….Out Of Time. Solid!
La’nell Hamer - In The Hood
I first heard of La’nell Hamer when someone sent this song over to me on TikTok when we first started the Sounds of STL. I listened, I oddly loved it, and I listen to it a lot. I’ve heavily edited the song so I can play it on the radio - but this clip posted below is NOT edited. Please be aware. But, the line about STL Chinese Food Spots is 100% accurate.
Just A Blur - Oh, Caroline
This is a band that shot us an email at patrico@soundsofstl.com and they come from Wentzville MO. The music video is as awesome as this song is. It’s all about punk rock and has the 2003 vibes behind it. This is legit my pick of the week and we’re gonna play this one all the way through.
