Tony’s Picks for COVER SONGS to be added to THE OFFICIAL SOUNDS OF STL Playlist:

I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Sleep Token

Sleep Token is this super mysterious, anonymous British rock group known for blending heavy music with really soft, beautiful moments. They took the iconic, upbeat '80s pop anthem from Whitney Houston and completely reimagined it. It's transformed into this slow-burning, hauntingly emotional, and atmospheric piece that builds into something powerful. Hearing such a happy song turned into something so intense and kind of dark is a wild ride.

Enter Sandman by Art vs Science

Art vs Science is an Australian trio that makes incredibly fun and high-energy electronic dance-rock. For a segment on a radio show, they covered what might be Metallica's most famous heavy metal song. Instead of chugging, distorted guitars, they turned the legendary riff into a bouncy, synth-fueled dance track. It's hilarious and brilliant, keeping all the power of the original but making it something you could rave to.

1979 by Freedom Fry

This track comes from Freedom Fry, an indie-pop duo made up of a French woman and an American guy. Their whole vibe is very breezy, dreamy, and melodic. They took the classic '90s alt-rock song by The Smashing Pumpkins, which is all about teenage nostalgia and restlessness. Freedom Fry strips back the angst and turns it into a mellow, sun-drenched folk-pop song that feels perfect for a lazy afternoon drive.

Electric Feel by TEEMID

TEEMID is a French producer who makes super smooth deep house and tropical house music, often with a live instrument like a saxophone. He took on "Electric Feel," the funky indie-electro hit from MGMT, and chilled it way out. The cover turns the quirky original into a laid-back, poolside jam with a killer sax solo. It’s the kind of song that just instantly makes you feel cooler and more relaxed.

Don’t Speak by Chael

Chael is an electronic music producer who is great at creating tracks with a modern, clean, and chill vibe. He covered the iconic '90s breakup anthem by No Doubt, which was originally a pretty angsty alt-rock ballad. Chael gives it a total makeover, turning it into a sleek, groovy electronic track with a subtle dance beat. It takes the sadness of the original and makes it sound surprisingly smooth and reflective.

Missouri Business by Alex Melton

Alex Melton is a musician who got famous on YouTube for his insane genre-swapping covers, especially turning things into pop-punk. He took the viral trap song "Missouri Business" by Solid Pimp and gave it his signature treatment. He turns the mumble-rap original into a full-blown, energetic pop-punk anthem that sounds straight out of 2005. The transformation is so complete and well-done that it's both impressive and hilarious.

Kids by Campsite Dream

Campsite Dream is a production project that's all about making relaxed, feel-good electronic music. They're known for their tropical house covers of popular songs, and this one is a perfect example. They covered "Kids" by MGMT, turning the synthy, energetic indie hit into a super chill, vacation-ready track. It's got a gentle beat and a carefree vibe that makes you want to just hang out at the beach.

Hey Ya by Koni ft. Strom

Koni is another producer who excels at making chill, deep house versions of classic songs, and he teamed up with singer Strom for this one. They tackled Outkast's impossibly energetic and famous hit, "Hey Ya!" Instead of the frantic pace of the original, they slow it way down into a soulful, groovy house track. Strom's smooth vocals totally change the feel, making it less of a party starter and more of a cool, late-night vibe.

Wonderwall by TEEMID

Gotta go with this one for the favorite. TEEMID, the same producer who did "Electric Feel," works his magic again here. He took what is arguably the most famous acoustic singalong song of all time, "Wonderwall" by Oasis, and completely flipped it. It goes from a straightforward Britpop anthem to a smooth, sophisticated tropical house track with an amazing saxophone melody. It’s the perfect example of how a cover can totally change the environment of a song, taking it from a pub to a beach club.

Here are some of the listener submitted picks:

Brenda - Okay, so my pick has to be Johnny Cash's version of 'Hurt.' I know, I know, everyone says it, but there's a reason. It's like he lived a thousand lives before he sang that song, and you can hear every single one of them. It’s the only song that can make you want to call your grandpa and punch a wall at the same time.

Marcus - Hands down, it's Alien Ant Farm's cover of 'Smooth Criminal.' People get so serious about music, but this was just pure, chaotic fun from the early 2000s. The video with the kid doing the Michael Jackson moves in the wrestling ring is burned into my brain forever.

Chloe - I'm going with The Ataris' version of 'The Boys of Summer.' It was THE song of my high school years.

Dave - I’m throwing it back to Los Lobos and 'La Bamba.' That song just makes you happy, period.

Megan - "Sinead O'Connor's 'Nothing Compares 2 U' is my forever favorite. It's my ultimate sad/breakup song
