βοΈ Family Demands Justice After Jail Death: The family of Samuel Hayes Jr., who died in custody at the St. Louis City Justice Center, is demanding surveillance footage and answers about what happened in his final hours. Hayes, 31, was awaiting trial for a 2024 murder and was found unresponsive after a fight and time in a restraint chair.
πΉ City Promises Transparency in Jail Death Investigation: Mayor Cara Spencer and city officials offered condolences and pledged accountability following Hayesβ death, the first in-custody fatality under her administration. SLMPDβs Force Investigations Unit is reviewing the case and plans to show surveillance footage to the family soon.
